| History: | The attached photo came from Chris Godward in Nov 2007. Chris says the photo was
given to him last summer. Apparently it was taken in Bielefeld in 1956 and the unit was 91/50 Car
Company? Markings: HQ 1st [British] Corps BAOR pre 1958/59. Notice the 17 on black o/s windscreen indicating Corps HQ and 1st Corps sign on n/s windscreen. The corps sign is repeated on front grille and one can also see the one star brigadier plate and his flag on bonnet. A brigadier was in command of a brigade and the date given as 1956 together with the markings might indicate this was the CO of 21st Independent Infantry Brigade [Formed 1956 and disbanded 1958] based in Osnabruck. This short lived brigade was under the control of HQ 1st [BR] Corps. Other brigades in BAOR were under control of various HQ divisions [2nd Inf Div etc..]. The two soldiers seem to be wearing the cap badge of the Royal Army Service Corps [RASC]. This unit provided drivers for all types of transport. The vehicle to the right is a Truck 3 Ton 4x4 GS Bedford RL Van Bodied version. [Command vehicle or ???] |
