 History:

5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards/20th Armoured Brigade Group.  This vehicle carries the pre 1959 unit sign [50 on red] and is also fitted with the modified sidescreens. The Castle sign on bonnet is the old 6th regimental badge used until 1922. It is possible that one of the squadrons or troops were linked to the old 6th and were allowed to use this sign.  The n/s wing mirror is fitted to wing using a standard arm modified by bending the rod to new shape. I can’t see any electric trafficators and, therefore, the manual version must be fitted. I am told the sign on the bonnet is for commanding officer [CO], but I can’t make out the details of what the CO is in charge of [Regiment or Squadron?]. The old 6th Regt sign is on bonnet side and this could indicate the CO of a squadron. The spare wheel is carried in bonnet indicating that this vehicle was used in a role where the spare wheel had to be removed from normal location. [Ie: Cable layer etc..?]
