| History: | It seems to have a date on windscreen: 11 7 57 [storage on Cyprus?]
It has been sprayed over in desert colour with hood and sides still
fitted!! It seems that only the rear section of sidescreens were fitted as per
BAOR modification instructions. Therefore, this Champ might be ex BAOR. I can't
see any trafficators but it might have the manual type fitted to n/s body
only.
The snorkel is still fitted and this Champ might have been one sent from
BAOR in 1956 for use in Operation Musketeer [Nov 56]. The fact that it is in
Cyprus indicates that it might have belonged to 3rd Inf Bde Grp sent to Malta
ready for Suez but never used. 3 Inf Bde Grp ended up in Cyprus.
The cap badge looks like the Grenadier Guards, if correct, then this
soldier is with 3rd Bn The Grenadier Guards of 3rd Inf Bde Grp. The 3rd GG moved
to 50th Ind Inf Bde Grp soon after.
Therefore, this could be 3rd Bn The Grenadier Guards of 50th Independent
Infantry Brigade Group in Cyprus during 1957.
