The top two photos were sent by Mike in March 2009: "The vehicle is running. Ken had taken it apart for restoration and did a
bunch of body work. I am not
interested in restoring it but actually driving it. I put it all back together
and primed it. My plan is to get it completely together and get it painted. It
will be trailered to military vehicle shows for now, until I can make sure it is
in good enough condition to put it on the road. I've always thought that Champs
were the ugliest vehicles so I had to have one. It's a nice addition to my
collection which has consisted of Unimogs, Willys Jeeps, deuces, and a Mighty
Mite. The Champ will accompany the Mighty Mite to shows." Original mail from Ken Koch m35a1@juno.com in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to the Register - May 2001.. I
have just become the proud owner of chassis number 1360. I have
taken possession from a fellow in Holland. Just got it off of the container here in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Have only had an opportunity
to start it and take a very short test drive. It starts, runs, drives,
and stops (though it has a spongy brake pedal). It is relatively complete,
and hasn't been "civilianized". Lacking, so far as I can
see, are the side and door curtains. It has an almost-new looking antenna base/trimmer mounted on the passenger side front fender. I also received a
spare engine. I do not intend to "restore" this truck, but
I will completeley service it, and make sure that everything is working and adjusted properly, and I will replace as many missing parts as I can possibly find. If I cannot find them, I will make them. It did still have
the shovel and pickax, 2 spare tire/wheels, and the fire extinguisher!
I am very pleased with the latest addition to my toybox! Bottom photo shows rear diff blown in 2005 |
